Summer Goals & Healthy Habits {update}

Back in May I posted about my summer goals to be completed by my 30th birthday.  Now that I have 6ish weeks until the big day, I decided I owe you an update.  I’m grading myself with running shoes:

One running shoe being the worst:
Hasn’t crossed my mind since I hit publish.

Five being the best:
I do this in my sleep!

Goal 1: Live in the moment.
This isn’t easy, y’all!  Adam recently shared this poem with me.  I’m reaping better than I sowed.  I’m drinking from my saucer, cause my cup has overflowed.  Those words are so powerful.  I truly am reaping better than I sowed so getting worked up about too much to do in too little time is kinda pointless.  Recently we made a last minute trip to a friend’s river house.  It was a total spur of the moment, unplanned thing.  However, I’m glad we decided to live in the moment and go because it was a great time.

Goal 2: Spend more time outside.
This is where C and I have excelled!  We’ve hit up parks, playgrounds, and pools.  We take at least one walk almost every day.  There’s a park with a playground nearby and C loves to ride the train.  It’s so fun to watch him.  Every time he has this expression of excitement and awe.

Goal 3: Get messy.
If you define “messy” as a combination of sweat, dirt, and sunscreen we’d have 5 shoes.  However, since my goal was to plan messy activities, I’ll have to give myself a one.  Unfortunately, our “messiness” has included mixing play-doh colors and a little finger painting.  I need to get pinteresting!

Goal 4: Exercise 5 days each week.
So I haven’t been exercising 5 days each week, but I have been exercising at least 5 times a week.  That kinda counts, right?  I’m running 3x a week which includes some speedwork to improve my 5k time.  I’m also doing strength work 3x each week.  Throw in zumba or T25 and I’m getting 7+ separate workouts in each week, they’re just not always over 5 days.

Goal 5. Make plans.
May was such a busy month I spent part of June enjoying low-key nights at home.  However, I’m so incredibly lucky to have amazing friends and I always enjoy when we get together.  Recently I went to a funk concert, and I have a kids-free beach weekend planned this month.  Hopefully this one will be a 5 by my 30th!

Goal 6: Focus on the positive.
I have my days (don’t we all?), but I’m getting there.  I probably haven’t been giving out as many compliments as I would should, but I have made a conscience effort to verbalize positive thoughts.  In away I think positive thoughts are better than compliments because they’re less restrictive.  I’ve also made a conscience effort to focus on change instead of flaws.

What are your current goals?  How are you measuring your progress?
